LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — LeBron James did not mean to be dramatic. The Los Angeles Lakers star just spoke matter-of-factly about Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony.
The two vacationed with former Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul in the Bahamas one summer. After the "Banana Boat" crew enjoyed the water, James noticed that Anthony did not get back on the boat like the rest of them did. So James went back into the water to find him.
"I saw the current was a little bit stronger than what it first started at where we were," James said. "It’s a blessing, honestly. We all talked about it and he told me he felt like I saved his life. I don’t really know what to say to be honest. I’m just happy he’s still here, obviously."
Anthony shared the story on an Instagram Live chat with Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, earlier in March.
"I just knew that he was not back in the boat with the rest of us so I went out looking for him," James said. "Through the grace of God and through strength and not being afraid of the water, I was able to help him back to the boat. It was the only thing that was on my mind at that point and time, was getting my brother back to the boat."
