Conor McGregor sends message to Khabib Nurmagomedov after father dies

Conor McGregor has offered his condolences to Khabib Nurmagomedov after his father passed away due to complications from contracting coronavirus.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was placed in a coma after suffering a heart attack when he1 caught Covid-19 and died this week aged just 57.

The Russian trained Nurmagomedov through-out his life and McGregor sent a message to his UFC rival after his father died on Friday.

He said: ‘The loss of a father, a coach, and a dedicated supporter of the sport. Condolences and rest in peace Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.’

McGregor and Nurmagomedov have had a bitter rivalry through the years and the Irishman has repeatedly been accused of stepping over the line to insult the UFC lightweight champion’s family and religion.

The 31-year-old even claimed recently Nurmagomedov had faked his father’s illness to avoid fights.

Nurmagomedov is yet to speak publicly on the tragedy, with Russia struggling to contain the spread of coronavirus with 675,000 reported positive cases.

Abdulmanap and his son Khabib were native to Dagestan and the UFC fighter recently claimed 20 people in his family were infected with Covid-19 and in hospital.

Considered a master coach in wrestling and sambo, Abdulmanap got to watch his son compete in the UFC just once.
