Chris Eubank Jr has demanded a fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, boldly claiming that he would seek to ‘destroy’ the Mexican widely rated as the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer.
Canelo, a three-weight world champion, is the WBC ‘franchise’ middleweight champion, and Eubank Jr, the WBA interim middleweight champion, insists that he deserves the next shot at him, ahead of British rival and WBO super-middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders.
Eubank Jr thinks that he is the man to dethrone Canelo, whose only defeat came against Floyd Mayweather in 2013 when the now 29-year-old was still a young fighter, because none of his rivals have his mentality of all-out attack.

Eubank Jr has demanded the next fight with Alvarez, boxing’s current No 1 fighter
‘Canelo Alvarez, that’s the No 1 fight that I want right now,’ Eubank Jr told Sky Sports. ‘I don’t think anyone on the planet would make a better opponent for him. Most guys are going in there to run and survive, I’m going in there to destroy.
‘I know I can beat him, so that’s the fight I want.
‘I definitely have got a strategy. I see the weaknesses. I see where he can be exposed.
‘I’m not looking to survive, I’m taking the fight to him and I don’t think he’s ready for somebody like that.’
Eubank Jr, 30, who is the son of middleweight great Chris Eubank, is also targeting the former unified world champion Gennady Golovkin, the other star name in the middleweight division, for his next fight in the United States.
He added: ‘Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez, two of the biggest names in boxing and they both have middleweight titles. Those are the guys I want. Those are the fights that I need at this stage of my career. I don’t want to take backward steps. It’s full steam ahead.’
But Eubank Jr, the WBA interim middleweight world champion, says he sees weaknes in Canelo
Billy Joe Saunders (right) had been in talks to fight Canelo before he was suspended
Saunders had been in pole position to fight Canelo next, having held talks with the Mexican’s Golden Boy promoters, but he is currently banned from boxing due to his shameful video, which emerged on social media, advising men on how to beat their partners during lockdown.
Eubank Jr was defeated by Saunders in 2014 and he is eyeing a future rematch, with bad blood still running between the pair.
‘Saunders is ongoing,’ he said. ‘It is a fight that can, and probably will, happen again in the future.
‘Everybody knows we don’t get along. We don’t like each other. I want the fight. The only issue is that I’m at middleweight and he’s at super-middleweight.’
