Israel Adesanya vs Paulo Costa is the fight on every MMA fan’s lips this week as the pair face each other in the UFC 253’s main card. Adesanya has an undefeated record of 19 wins and no losses and is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world of mixed martial arts.
Adesanya, aged 31, is known for being very private about his personal life – but the UFC fighter is unmarried.
However, his exact relationship status is unknown, with many believing the star to be single as he had not confirmed any details about his love life in the past.
However, eagle eye fans were quick to spot Adesanya dropped a clue into his persona life in a recent interview on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.
The UFC middleweight champions was discussing the upcoming bout, along with what it was like to live and train at City Kickboxing for the bout.
He says he spent two weeks living in the gym before Saturday’s clash, saying: “Eat sleep train repeat, that was the vibe.”
Asked if he got a new cat during the interview, he said he didn’t but added: “My girl did.”
He added he was hit hard by the loss of his old cat, saying: “No I wasn’t going to get a new one but you know women.”
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, he settles in Rotorua, New Zealand aged 10.
At the age of 18, he started training in kickboxing, after being inspired by the Muay Thai film Ong-Bak.
Adesanya went on to amass an amateur kickboxing record of 32–0 before moving to and fighting in China.
At the age of 21, Adesanya moved to Auckland, New Zealand, and began training under Eugene Bareman at City Kickboxing, with other established MMA fighters such as Dan Hooker, Kai Kara-France and Alexander Volkanovski.
Ahead of this weekend’s UFC 253 clash against Paulo Costa, the pair have sent each other messages.
Both men defeated Yoel Romero in their previous fights.
Costa said: “I have just one question, Adesanya, why you freezing when you face Romero?
“You’re not a real champion, man. You don’t deserve. I will kill you.”
Adesanya replied: “He’s dumb. He’s dumb and he walks forward and he throws shots.
“That’s what makes it really exciting, and that’s what I’m looking forward to.

“I’m looking forward to this big, inflated ignoramus, running up on me, trying to throw shots as I keep moving and sticking him.
“The only people he ever beat that are worthy of anything as two guys that are ranked, that was Uriah Hall and Romero. Who else has he beat that’s ranked?
“Who else has he beat? I can list you four guys that I have, so you have to understand there’s levels to this.”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all fights will be held behind closed doors at the Flash Forum in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
