Pulev slams 'arrogant' Joshua over repeating mistake made before Ruiz defeat

Kubrat Pulev believes Anthony Joshua has set himself up for another shock defeat after hyping up a unification clash with Tyson Fury.

Joshua – IBF, WBO and WBA (Super) champion – has held talks with WBC belt holder Fury over an undisputed fight next year which would happen after the British champions have defended their titles against Pulev and Deontay Wilder.

Pulev is Joshua’s IBF mandatory and insisted AJ was repeating the same mistakes he made with Andy Ruiz before his calamitous loss to the Mexican last year.

Talk of a super-fight with Wilder dominated the build-up to that fight and Pulev slammed Joshua for overlooking him just as he did with Ruiz.

‘This is also very arrogant. Talking about Fury because he doesn’t think about my fight, like last time with Ruiz,’ Pulev said in an interview via the Betway Insider blog.

‘But life showed him that this is very bad when someone does that.

‘That’s why he will take his second knockout of his life. We will show him and the whole world.

‘I’m now next in line for Fury and I think after AJ, I will fight with Tyson Fury because Joshua is going to lose and he does not think I’m a big problem – but I will show him really new things.’

It is unclear when and where Joshua and Pulev will fight after their summer showdown at Tottenham’s stadium was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Eddie Hearn has insisted Joshua will fight before the end of 2020 and said the Pulev bout could go ahead behind closed doors if crowds continue to be barred from events.

Matchroom are targeting a few dates in December for Joshua’s return, but there is yet to be any official announcement.

‘December 5th is what we’ve heard and I hear London is favourite to host,’ Pulev said.

‘We think London because maybe he is scared and he wants to fight there.

‘Normally we can fight anywhere in the world not only in London – but for me it’s no problem, I can fight anywhere. I’m ready, I’m hungry, and I know I am going to win.’
