Bears WR Javon Wims ejected for twice punching Saints DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in head

CHICAGO — Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims was ejected, and could face a suspension, after punching New Orleans Saints safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in the head twice early in the third quarter of Sunday's game.

Wims wasn’t directly involved in the preceding play, a 5-yard completion by Nick Foles to Allen Robinson II on first down, and Gardner-Johnson wasn’t even covering him. But after the play was blown dead, Wims trotted over to Gardner-Johnson, who didn’t appear to see the receiver coming. Wims reached over and appeared to tug at Gardner-Johnson’s helmet and, when Gardner-Johnson turned, punched him twice.

Saints cornerback Janoris Jenkins ran over and tried to tackle Wims, but referees quickly separated them and quickly announced Wims’ ejection.
