Top college football matchups we won’t see in 2020 after Big Ten’s decision to go conference only

The Big Ten announced Thursday that it will eliminate out-of-conference football games this fall.

The conference is the first member of the Football Bowl Subdivision to take such a step amid the coronavirus pandemic, but it's possible others might follow its lead.

Here are some of the most highly anticipated matchups we won't see on the gridiron in 2020:

Sept. 5

Michigan at Washington

Sept. 12

Ohio State at Oregon

Penn State at Virginia Tech

Iowa State at Iowa

Michigan State at BYU

Sept. 19

Appalachian State at Wisconsin

Maryland at West Virginia

Sept. 26

Miami (Fla.) at Michigan State

BYU at Minnesota

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were scheduled to play against Wisconsin this season at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, but that game will not take place with the Big Ten electing to play only conference games in 2020. (Photo: Darren Yamashita, USA TODAY Sports)
