Bubba Wallace is still salty about being wrecked out of the NASCAR All-Star Open this week by Michael McDowell, but he’s rolling with an attempt to turn the incident into something good.
The torn-up car bumper that Wallace dropped into McDowell’s hauler at Bristol in a fit of pique after the crash is now up for auction on eBay through the NASCAR Foundation. Proceeds will benefit Motor Racing Outreach, a ministry that seves the NASCAR community. The top bid was over $15,000 as of Saturday evening; the auction is scheduled to close the afternoon of July 27.
“May not agree to what happened on track, but we can agree on a positive outcome from the situation,” Wallace wrote Friday on Twitter.
Wallace ripped McDowell after the wreck Wednesday night, saying his fellow driver was a “joke.” He also hinted that McDowell was a hypocrite who hides behind his Christian faith. Wallace dropped the bumper in front of McDowell’s hauler after making those statements.
In his tweet Friday to promote the auction, McDowell wrote “CHRISTIAN” in capital letters.
Neither driver has had success on the track in their Cup Series careers, with zero wins and five top-five finishes combined. They’ll try again Sunday when they race at Texas Motor Speedway.
