The Formula 2 Russian Grand Prix in Sochi has been abandoned after a horrific crash which resulted in two cars engulfed in flames.
Red flags were shown on the eighth lap of Sunday’s event after Luca Ghiotto of Hitech Grand Prix and Jack Aitken of Campos Racing clipped each other while battling for position at the third corner, crashing into the barriers.
The sprint race was abandoned when the cars went up in flames, and both drivers thankfully walked away from the incident unscathed.

Guanyu Zhou of Uni-Virtuosi Racing was leading when the accident took place, and was therefore awarded his first victory in F2.
However, with less than 75 per cent of the race distance completed, only half the points were awarded to the top eight finishers.
“It feels amazing, I promised to my fans in China we’d listen to the Chinese national anthem on the podium,” Zhou said.
“I’m really happy for the win but it’s great to see both drivers walk away from their crash.”

Prema Racing driver Mick Schumacher, son of German legend Michael, finished third in the curtailed race.
“We had a good first lap then just tried to manage our tyres, but hopefully everyone is all right — that’s all that matters at the moment,” Schumacher said.
Meanwhile, Aitken and Ghiotto were classified fourth and fifth respectively, each picking up points for their teams.
The 25-year-old Aitken tweeted after the incident: “Hi all, thanks for the messages. I’m glad to be all OK after that, glad Luca is too. A small touch between us earlier in the corner gave me a rear puncture, and the car just started going straight. Just one of them.”
