Essendon have moved club legend Mark Harvey out of his position as stoppages coach, as senior-coach-in-waiting Ben Rutten continues to reshuffle his football department.

The three time premiership player and former Fremantle coach is being moved into a different role.

While Essendon are still in the process of finalising the change, The Age has been told by club sources that Harvey won't continue in a coaching position.

The change has been made immediately, with defensive line coach James Kelly to replace Harvey as stoppages coach.

Rutten himself will coach the backline this week in the Bombers' final home-and-away match of 2020, against Melbourne.

Harvey has been an assistant coach at Essendon since 2015.
