Chelsea midfielder Christian Pulisic thrilled Liverpool fans by scoring a sensational opener to give them the lead at home to Manchester City in the Premier League on Thursday.

The £58million midfielder scored a scintillating solo goal to put his side ahead on a night when former boss Jurgen Klopp saw his side win the title as a result of City failing to win.

Fans on social media shared their joy and joked that Klopp had told his former star to help the Reds win the league for the first time since 1990.

The goal sent Chelsea on their way to a 2-1 win that secured the Premier League title for Klopp

Social media was quick to note that Pulisic had a strong connection with former boss Klopp

One supporter suggested that Pulisic joining Chelsea was part of a long-term vision by Klopp

Alongside a cackling meme, one viewer wrote: ‘I see agent Pulisic has been activated’.

Another produced a photo of Klopp encouraging Pulisic on the training ground after spotting the youth teamer’s talent during his time as manager as Dortmund.

They suggested that a time traveller to 2014 would have heard Klopp and Pulisic agreeing ‘a mission’ to end City’s title hopes six years later.

Calling Klopp’s move a ‘masterstroke’, one fan said: ‘He started off pulisic’s career in Germany and declined signing him for Liverpool so that he could go to Chelsea for this exact moment.’

Referring to Pulisic’s move to Dortmund from the US as a 16-year-old in 2015, another cheekily speculated: ‘Klopp used a time machine, saw the future and then brought Pulisic to Europe.’

Kevin de Bruyne hit back with a wonderful free-kick after the break but Pulisic almost scored again before a late Willian penalty extinguished City’s hopes of keeping Liverpool waiting any longer.

Klopp was strongly rumoured to have been interested in taking Pulisic to Anfield before he became the most expensive American player in history when he completed his move to Stamford Bridge in January 2019.
