Houssem Aouar is set to be the subject of a formal bid from Arsenal soon with Mikel Arteta prioritising a move for the midfielder.

Lyon’s talented 22-year-old is firmly on the Gunners’ radar ahead of the transfer window shutting on October 5.

Arteta wants to strengthen his squad in the middle of the park with the new season now underway.

Arsenal got off to a solid start on Saturday as they thumped Fulham 3-0 away at Craven Cottage in their Premier League opener.

But their need for reinforcements in midfield is great, especially as Lucas Torreira is understood to be on his way out.

Torino are in talks with the Gunners over a loan move that will be made permanent, and Aouar could replace him.

According to French outlet Telefoot Chaine , A bid worth £36m is poised to be lodged by Arsenal shortly.

Arteta has brought in some new faces already including Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian.

And his new No.1 target is Aouar, with the Ligue 1 star seemingly moving ahead of Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey in the club’s shortlist.

Arsenal are not expected to sign Aouar ahead of the weekend, with their next opponents West Ham on Saturday night at the Emirates Stadium (8pm).

But one player who could join their ranks before then is goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson.

The Dijon shot-stopper is due to come in as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez.

His £20m transfer to Premier League rivals Aston Villa was completed earlier today.
