Arsenal transfer demand holding up moves for Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey

Arsenal are reportedly making it tough for both Atletico Madrid and Torino to sign Lucas Torreira which could hamper the Gunners’ chances of bringing in Houssem Aouar or Thomas Partey. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta managed to get most of his business done early in the summer transfer window.

Willian was signed on a free after leaving Chelsea while a deal for Gabriel Magalhaes was also completed before the season started.

But the Gunners are still in the market to sign a central midfielder.

Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos have been the regular options in midfield for Arteta this season with Mohamed Elneny and Joe Willock also getting regular minutes.

Mesut Ozil remains outcast at Arsenal as he looks set to run down his contract.

Torreira was a regular under Arteta when he first took charge of Arsenal back in December, but he soon lost his place in the starting line-up and he hasn’t been involved at all this season with a move away from the Emirates expected.

A return to Serie A had looked the likeliest outcome but Atletico have since emerged as the top contenders for his signature.

Arsenal will no doubt be hoping the money from a potential Torreira sale will help their chances to sign one of Partey or Aouar.

However, they’re reportedly making life difficult for both Atletico and Torino in talks to sign Torreira.

According to Tuttosport, Arsenal are demanding any loan deal for the Uruguayan include an obligation to buy.

Atletico and Torino are said to only be willing to include an option to buy with negotiations seemingly at a standstill.

Despite growing speculation around Torreira’s future at Arsenal before, Arteta said last week that no deal was close.

“We don’t have any update on Lucas or any other player at the moment,” he said.

Jorginho has also emerged as a surprise alternative to Partey and Aouar, but the Arsenal boss refused to comment directly on the links.

He said: “I cannot open up on players that play for a different team and their qualities. It’s not appropriate.”

However, Arteta did state that Arsenal are still in the market for new players before the transfer window closes.

“We are still open to improve our team,” the Arsenal boss added.

“We are looking for different options depending on what happens with our players here.

“We are getting prepared just in case we need to do something.”
