Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Thomas Partey deal close, Houssem Aouar, Jorginho latest plus first-team exits

Arsenal have until 11pm tonight on transfer deadline day to sign a new midfielder to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad, and the clock is ticking. Arteta has overseen a huge improvement in the team over recent months, winning the FA Cup and starting strongly in the Premier League, but knows money is tight and he may not get the likes of Thomas Partey, Houssem Aouar or Jorginho to take his squad to the next level.

Partey is the most likely option today as Arsenal have some leverage with Atletico Madrid, given Atletico are hoping to seal a loan deal for the out of favour Gunners midfielder Lucas Torreira. However, Atletico are demanding Partey’s release clause of £45m must be activated before any transfer for the 27-year-old Ghanaian international can be sanctioned, and that has put off the Arsenal hierarchy who want to sell players before they buy.

Negotiations for Aouar appear at breaking point and it is unclear whether Arsenal will go back in today for one final attempt to pick off one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe. Lyon want £54m to close the deal and the Gunners are again in a position where they need to raise some money through player sales before they can consider meeting such an asking price, which could leave Arteta frustrated come the end of the day. Chelsea’s Jorginho is another option, but Arsenal are waiting to see if the Blues can capture West Ham’s Declan Rice first, which would see them free up space in the squad to sell Jorginho to the Gunners. GUENDOUZI’S MESSAGE

“I’m buzzing to start life in Berlin as a Hertha player,” says the midfielder.

He has moved to the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan from Arsenal – now he’ll seek to restore his reputation as well as his form.

PARTEY ARRIVES IN LONDON

Thomas Partey has arrived in London after undergoing a medical in Madrid earlier today, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Arsenal have notified Atletico of their intention to trigger the midfielder’s release clause tonight, with a deal now on the verge of being completed.

GUENDOUZI LEAVES

Matteo Guendouzi’s loan move to Hertha Berlin has been confirmed.

The French midfielder joins the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan deal.

That’s one midfielder out. Now for the midfielder in…

DEFENDER MOVES TO BLACKPOOL

Blackpool have confirmed the signing of Arsenal youngster Daniel Ballard on a season-long loan.

The Northern Ireland defender spent last season on loan at Swindon Town, but suffered a serious knee injury.

The 21-year-old will spend this season on loan at the League One outfit in order to regain match fitness.

Talksport claim Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey will undergo his Arsenal medical in Spain today ahead of his move to the London outfit.

It seems likely that Arsenal will sign the player, after seemingly buying out his contract with Atletico.

Talksport’s Alex Crook states that Arsenal are confident of the deal going through by the close of the window tonight:

PARTEY COULD BE INFLUENTIAL FOR ARSENAL

Thomas Partey could be hugely influential at Arsenal, according to Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero.

Partey seems on the verge of a move to Arsenal, as the London club will pay his €50m buyout clause.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Montero was full of praise for what Partey could bring to Arsenal.

“It seems Thomas Partey will be an Arsenal player by the end of the day,” said Montero.

“It seems Arsenal are going to pay the famous clause we’ve been talking about, more or less £45m.

“I think he’s going to be one of the best midfielders in Europe. He defends, he attacks, he scores, he is a typical box-to-box Premier League player. I think it’s going to be a very good investment for Arsenal.

“Simeone hoped he was going to be the future of Atletico Madrid, it seems he’s going to be the future of Arsenal.”

KOLASINAC DEAL IN DOUBT

Arsenal’s attempts to offload defender Sead Kolasinac may collapse due to the transfer fee the club are commanding.

Kolasinac is now surplus to requirements at the Emirates, and the club have been in talks with German outfit Bayer Leverkusen over a deal.

However Sky Sports reports that the north London side want £10m for Kolasinac’s services, a fee that Leverkusen are unwilling to match.

This could mean the defender stays put at Arsenal.

Leverkusen may offer a loan deal with obligation to buy next summer, but as of now talks are still on-going.

PARTEY SIGNING WOULD TAKE ARSENAL INTO TOP FOUR

Former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor believes if Arsenal manage to sign Thomas Partey before the close of the transfer window, it would take the north London side into the top four this season.

Arsenal look set to trigger his buyout clause at Atletico Madrid, and Agbonlahor says the arrival of the Ghana would be huge for The Gunners.

“Arsenal need that defensive midfielder who’s going to tidy up and spot danger,” Agbonlahor told Sky Sports.

“If they do pay it [Partey’s release clause] you can guarantee Arsenal will finish in the top four, because in their squad that’s the only position I feel they’re missing out on.”

MURPHY WELCOMES PARTEY SIGNING

Former Liverpool signing Danny Murphy would welcome Arsenal signing Thomas Partey.

ATLETI KNOW NOTHING OF PARTEY BID

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague claims that Atletico Madrid know nothing of Arsenal’s intent to trigger Thomas Partey’s release clause.

Ballague tweeted: “Atletico don’t know anything about Arsenal paying Thomas buy out clause (€50m).

“They of course do not need to know as that is done directly with LaLiga but after talking regularly about Lucas Torreira, they expect a courtesy call that has not arrived… yet.”

Ballague however did praise Partey.

“Thomas Partey is a midfielder with the ability to pass short and long with quality,” he said.

“He’s very intelligent in the way he moves, brave in the way he presses high (up the pitch) and helps the team with high dynamism.

“One-touch football is something that he enjoys doing. He is strong, fast as well, so there is a lot to like with Thomas Partey.”
