Arsenal transfer roundup: Rivals eye Partey, Pepe investigation, Coutinho update

The 2019/20 season is over for Arsenal following the FA Cup final success against Chelsea, with the club now turning their attention to the transfer window.

Willian has officially arrived from Chelsea as the Gunners prepare for next season with hopes of rejuvenating their squad, although the financial uncertainty and staggered season-end dates for clubs mean there is an added level of disarray.

However, Arsenal are said to have a few irons in the fire and are hopeful of concluding several deals this summer, alongside potentially moving on a few of their current first-team squad.

We look at all the latest transfer news surrounding the club.

Juve to move for Partey

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is a prime transfer target for Arsenal this summer but Juventus are now said to be keen on the Ghanaian.

Italian daily Corriere dello Sport is cited by insidefutbol.com as reporting that the Italian champions could offer Douglas Costa or Federico Bernardeschi to Atleti to help accelerate a move.

Partey has a £45million release clause at the Spanish club and they are not willing to negotiate below that clause.

Arsenal investigate Pepe deal

The Gunners splashed out a whopping £72m to land Nicolas Pepe from Lille last summer and the club are now launching an investigation into their own deal.

ESPN claim that Arsenal have launched an ‘internal investigation’ into the deal as part of their analysis of their overall recruitment process.

Pepe has eight goals and eight assists in 42 Gunners appearances, with the club having paid £20m for the deal upfront plus a further £52m to arrive over a five-year period.

The club have ‘no sense of regret’ over the deal but had their attention drawn to ‘the depth of that commitment’ of the deal.

Gunners confirm Willian signing

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Willian as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Chelsea.

The Brazilian forward has penned a three-year deal at the Emirates and has now spoken for the first time after the move.

Willian said: "[I like] the way they play, everything is amazing – the stadium, and I think that with Arteta, Arsenal have a great opportunity to fight again for titles in the Premier League and in Europe so I'm very happy because of that.

"I'm excited to start. I can't wait to go on the pitch and do my thing to help my team-mates and to help this club to shine again. That's what I want.

"When I talked to [Mikel], the conversation was good, he gave me confidence to come to Arsenal. He said a lot of good things to me and that's why I have come to Arsenal."

Agent hint on Coutinho future

Kia Joorabchian has spoken of the future of his client Philippe Coutinho, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer.

The Bayern Munich loan signing scored twice against his parent club Barcelona on Friday as the Catalans crashed out of the Champions League with an 8-2 quarter-final drubbing.

Coutinho is set to return to Barcelona this summer with the Blaugrana keen to shift him from their wage bill ahead of next season.

The Brazilian's agent Joorabchian said in an interview with talkSPORT: “After the Champions League is finished, then we will sit down.
