Arsenal transfer target Houssem Aouar took transfer stance due to two Gunners stars

Houssem Aouar wants to sign for Arsenal this summer in order to team up with fellow French international players Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi, according to ESPN. Aouar has reportedly agreed to join the Gunners, but Lyon are yet to accept a bid for him.

Arsenal are desperate to sign Aouar before the transfer window closes on October 5th

The Gunners have been pursuing the playmaker throughout the summer, but have been unable to strike a deal with Lyon.

The French club demanded £54million for the 22-year-old, though they could reportedly be forced into selling him due to their financial troubles.

They are reportedly going to have to part ways with one of their bigger stars this summer, and Barcelona’s interest in Memphis Depay is said to have waivered in recent weeks.

Aouar reportedly has attracted interest from Juventus and Barcelona, but has now decided Arsenal is the place for him.

The young playmaker is said to have agreed a long-term contract worth £100,000-per-week, and is waiting for the clubs to agree terms.

According to ESPN, he made the decision based on his desire to team up with Guendouzi and Lacazette, having played alongside both on the international stage.

Aouar also played alongside Lacazette for a brief time while the striker was at Lyon.

Arsenal have reportedly made a bid of €35m to Lyon, which was rejected as the French club want a higher fee.

The Gunners reportedly know they’ll have to sacrifice players in order to fund an increased bid, and are currently in negotiations to sell Lucas Torreira to Atletico Madrid to raise some money.

Speaking to the Here We Go podcast, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal are trying to offload players in order to make way for Aouar and open up some space in the wage bill.

“Obviously the club that is working to sign Aouar is Arsenal,” he said.

“We have to say that Arsenal are convinced that if they could sell some players, and they have many in [Sead] Kolasinac, Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] and [Lucas] Torreira, many players to sell or loan out in the last two weeks, they can try again for Aouar.

“Lyon are asking for €60million, so it’s complicated but the player would be ready to join the Premier League, would be ready to join Arsenal.

“The player would like to come to the Premier League and to join Arsenal but for now there are no negotiations.

“In July they offered Guendouzi as part of the deal and they didn’t find an agreement.

“Now it’s up to Arsenal if they sell players, I am convinced [they will bid again].”
