Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi hasn’t trained with the first team for over a fortnight after being banned by manager Mikel Arteta.
The Frenchman has been training alongside a fitness coach and without his team-mates for the last two weeks following his decision to grab Neal Maupay by the throat following the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat to Brighton in June.
Guendouzi escaped a ban for the incident but Arteta was furious with his conduct and the midfielder has been left out of the last four matchday squads.
When pressed on the issue, Arteta has consistently insisted that the situation hasn’t changed and in doing so, suggesting that Guendouzi’s bad attitude remains a problem.
But the Athletic claim the situation is even worse than first feared as Guendouzi has not even trained with his team-mates in the last fortnight.
Guendouzi was called into a meeting with Arteta and technical director Edu after the incident and the pair were unimpressed with his responses to their questions about the incident.
The Frenchman was then told he would be training alone and away from his team-mates until the situation changes.
Guendouzi has a growing list of misdemeanours and he angered Arteta on a warm weather training camp in Dubai earlier this year, which resulted in him being left out of the Gunners’ squad to face Newcastle.
Arsenal signed the midfielder in a £5m deal from Lorient but Unai Emery was aware of his attitude problems, though he was adamant he could change him.
The club are now set to meet with Guendouzi’s representatives in the coming days to discuss his future and it’s possible that he could leave the club this summer.
Given Arsenal’s financial problems, the club could look to cash in on the midfielder or use him as a makeweight in a bid to sign Atletico Madrid ace Thomas Partey.
