Brighton could go head-to-head with Leeds United for Daniel James.
The Manchester United and Wales forward was left out of the squad to take on the Seagulls on Saturday, which could suggest that he will be leaving Old Trafford before the transfer window closes in October.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a fast start to his United career last summer, but has slipped out of first-team proceedings following the emergence of England international Mason Greenwood.
Although it seemed that Leeds was the only realistic destination, Graham Potter could convince James that a reunion would be a better chance for him to further his career.
The Athletic have reported that Potter would ‘relish’ a reunion with James on the south coast, but add that United are likely to keep their player and have him fight for his place.
Daily Star Sport reported last week that Leeds will revive their interest in James having come close to signing him from Swansea – but only if he becomes surplus to requirements at United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still have a high opinion of the winger after praising his work rate in the past, and even described one of his attributes as being the best of anyone in Europe.
He said: ”He is probably the best defensive winger in the world with his honesty, commitment and the way he does his recovery runs and doing his back tackles.
"It is unbelievable, but that is also base for his attacking football because it gives him the space to run into, so I am not that surprised, though very pleased, of course.
"He is only going to improve by the coaching and the exposure he gets at Old Trafford because when you are not fazed by [being] a Manchester United player then the limit must be sky-high."
James has scored a total of four goals across his 47 appearances for United, and could feature against Brighton in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Potter said of James back in November: "I'm delighted for him, probably this time last year he wasn't playing this regularly for Swansea.
“But he's a great lad, his sprinting ability is sensational, he's so brave and he'll get better and better with his final ball and execution."
James said in response: "Obviously I know the gaffer well from last season. He takes big credit for why I am here today.”
