Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is set to join Chelsea early this week.
The 28-year-old has been chosen as the man to compete with Spain international Kepa Arrizabalaga at Stamford Bridge following a string of high profile mistakes in recent fixtures.
A deal worth in the region of £22m is said to have been agreed between the two clubs, and an announcement could be made by the Blues within the next 24 hours.
That will come as good news to Chelsea supporters, who witness Frank Lampard’s men slip to a 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool in which Sadio Mane was gifted a second goal by Kepa.
Sky Sports have reported those updates and added that Mendy is currently discussing personal terms.
Lampard said of his first-choice stopper after their recent loss: “We have to keep working, Kepa has to keep working.
“He has to have support around him, that’s very clear. It was a clear mistake on the day.
Before adding: “He is our player and it is clear now that there are two games where we have felt, today was a clear mistake and and Brighton was a mistake too and he has reflected on it in that way.
“We have to keep working, it is the rule of football.
“Players need support, particularly from myself. I give that to all the players.
“Kepa has to keep working, nobody tries to make mistakes in football, it is the nature of the game.
“You have to be strong, you keep going and that is where he is at.”

The former Derby boss then confirmed that Kepa will not be in goal for the Carabao Cup clash against Barnsley on Wednesday – but not because of his form in the Premier League.
After confirming that Willy Caballero would start, he said: "That was always my feeling to play him on Wednesday, regardless of today
"So I don't want people to make judgements on that game itself."
