Chelsea pursuit of Kai Havertz transfer could be about to take giant twist

Should Chelsea beat Sheffield United in their Premier League showdown on Saturday night, it will be the biggest result in their push for Champions League football yet. And that would boost their chances of signing Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign. Defeat, however, would plunge their bid for the 21-year-old into uncertain waters.

Chelsea mean business.

Frank Lampard has already secured two transfer arrivals already, with deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech in the bag.

The signing of Ziyech was announced back in February, with the Blues securing an early agreement with Ajax that would see the Morocco international move to Stamford Bridge.

And, in June, Chelsea pulled off a major coup by beating Liverpool to Werner’s signature.

Now, it’s very much Operation Havertz.

Lampard wants to bring the 21-year-old to west London, believing the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker can be the ticket to Premier League title glory.

  • Chelsea have perfect tactic Kai Havertz transfer tactic to seal deal

And, by the end of today, Chelsea fans should get the biggest indicator yet whether they’ll be able to land the Germany international at the end of the campaign.

Lampard’s side go up against a Sheffield United team who, after a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, appeared to have hit their peak.

Yet Chris Wilder’s side have responded well in the time since then, putting the likes of Tottenham and Wolves to the sword.

Chelsea need to pick up all three points.

They have Manchester United breathing down their necks, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side currently playing the best football of any team in the top flight.

And Leicester are refusing to give up in the race to make the top four, either. Brendan Rodgers wants Champions League football and, throughout the campaign, they’ve been more consistent than most.

Should Chelsea beat Sheffield United, they’d be in a favourable position.

To sit third, with three games to go, would suggest they’ll be rubbing shoulders with the rest of Europe’s elite next season.

Havertz wants his next club to be playing amongst the big guns, going for the biggest trophies on offer. It’s paramount when it comes to choosing his next move.

But defeat would plunge them back into uncertain territory.

Should they lose, and Leicester and United both win their matches in hand, then it would put the pressure on. And, suddenly, any prospect of landing Havertz would be in doubt.

Chelsea need the top four to land the Leverkusen star. If they fail to achieve that, then it’s likely the Leverkusen star will head elsewhere.

Real Madrid want to sign him, despite Zinedine Zidane seeing the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos get back to their best over in Spain.

And Bayern Munich remain interested, too, despite spending big on landing Leroy Sane from Manchester City.

Chelsea need to win against Sheffield United to beat their chances of signing Havertz. If they don’t, then the transfer saga will only take another twist.
