Chelsea are understood to be willing to sell N'Golo Kante this summer with Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte keen on on the Frenchman.
However, there are some complications for the Serie A side, with their owners currently short on cash to spend in the transfer market.
Kante has slipped down the pecking order somewhat at Chelsea since being moved out of the defensive-midfield role by Maurizio Sarri for Jorginho.
Frank Lampard has followed a similar route with the 29-year-old, who started just 20 Premier League games last season.
Now, reports in Italy from Corriere Dello Sport claim that former Chelsea manager Conte wants to add Kante to his ranks to shake things up and become an integral part of his new 3-5-2 system.
Conte knows just how much Kante excelled in the pivot role, having used him there during his Premier League winning season.
There was a time when the idea of Chelsea selling Kante would be laughed at, and that is still their official line.
But the report suggests that it could happen due to the new landscape of the Blues side, describing Kante as “almost a luxury”.
Chelsea would be even more open to selling if they were to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice as his replacement.
And after a summer of spending £200m, it’s fair to say Chelsea would not turn their noses at a fee in the region of £46m – the asking price the club have reportedly slapped on his head.
There is a slight hitch to proceedings though.
