Chelsea target Edouard Mendy wants Blues move but Rennes seek replacement first

Chelsea are eyeing a move for Edouard Mendy though Rennes are reportedly reluctant to sell the goalkeeper until they find a replacement.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is eager to sign a new shot-stopper with Kepa Arrizabalaga having struggled in recent times.

The Spaniard, who Chelsea paid a world record fee for in 2018, was dropped by Lampard after a number of errors and looks set to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

Mendy, 28, has been identified as a possible target with reports suggesting Chelsea had a bid of €16m turned down over the weekend.

Though TuttoMercatoWeb claim that Rennes will not sell without a replacement, despite Mendy hoping to join Chelsea.

The Ligue 1 season is already underway and it’s reported that Rennes do not want to lose their No 1 without having someone ready to slot in.

Lampard has already been very busy this summer, bringing five new faces to the club.

Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr have all arrived at Stamford Bridge with Kai Havertz expected to join them.
