Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Leicester ace Ben Chilwell.
The England international is valued at £50m and has been high on the Blues' shopping list for a number of months.
However, Chilwell is unlikely to feature for Chelsea until later in the year as he attempts to recover from a serious ankle injury.
The west London outfit are set to kick off their 2020/21 campaign away at Brighton on September 14, less than three weeks away.
Chilwell's injury has brought questions surrounding a move into play, with a source telling the Sun: “If Ben gets news he is going to be out for another six weeks, not three, then Chelsea could well take a totally different view on this whole matter.”
However, this isn't the view of transfer expert Ian McGarry, who says Chelsea will still sign the full-back, even though he is unlikely to pass a Premier League medical any time soon.
“Ben Chilwell saw a specialist on Monday regarding the heel injury that he suffered in the restart of the Premier League season," he told the Transfer Window Podcast.
“The outcome of that is yet to be assessed by Chelsea's medical department, who have been authorised to have the details and assessment which was done during the examination.
"In doing so, an assessment will be made regarding Chilwell's recovery, his rehabilitation and when he can return to training and be expected to play again.
“At the moment, it's expected that he wouldn't pass the medical examination under the strict terms that Premier League players are put under with signing a contract for a new team.
“However, it's not unusual for a player to be signed on the basis that they'll recover and are expected to recover.
“That would mean that Chilwell was available to make the switch from Leicester City to Chelsea for a flat fee of £50million, which would make sure Lampard has secured his preferred targets in terms of rebuilding his defence.”
Chilwell is expected to complete his Chelsea move at some point this week.
To add, the Blues are also closing in on deals for Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva of Bayer Leverkusen and PSG respectively.
The former will cost around £80m, while Silva is set to arrive on a free transfer.
