Diogo Jota has enjoyed a breathtaking start to his Liverpool career – and Premier League fans believe he was the top flight’s leading star throughout October.
The 23-year-old has scored three league goals in his first five appearances for Jurgen Klopp ’s side, bagging the winner in each of their 2-1 wins over Sheffield United and West Ham at the end of October.
He is already providing Klopp with a selection dilemma at Anfield, as Reds fans are now calling for him to get the nod ahead of Roberto Firmino when they go away to Manchester City on Sunday.
And according to a recent Daily Star Sport fan survey, Jota was the Premier League’s best performer last month.
Thousands of supporters took part in our survey to determine which star would be named October’s Player of the Month, and it was the new Liverpool recruit who clinched a narrow victory with 27 per cent of the votes.
He only just pipped new Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to top spot, nevertheless, with 25 per cent of fans voting for the £22million shot-stopper.
Mendy, 28, has transformed the Blues’ defensive fortunes since arriving from Rennes, keeping three clean sheets in his first three appearances for Frank Lampard’s side.
Tottenham talisman Harry Kane earned 16 per cent of the votes after registering four goals and three assists during October, while Patrick Bamford and Jack Grealish each took 13 per cent.
Bamford netted a superb hat-trick for Leeds in their 3-0 triumph away at Aston Villa on October 23, boosting his overall goal tally for the season to six.
As for Grealish, he scored twice and set up three goals in Aston Villa’s astonishing 7-2 win over champions Liverpool at the start of the month.
Wolves’ Daniel Podence and Southampton’s Jannick Vestergaard also received three per cent of the votes.

Our standings differ with EA Sports’ official Premier League Player of the Month shortlist for October, which includes Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker, West Ham midfielder Pablo Fornals, Wolves centre-back Conor Coady, Southampton striker Che Adams, Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min and new Chelsea defender Thiago Silva.
The only two players on both lists are Kane and Grealish.
