Jurgen Klopp hailed Fabinho's performance as he emerged from the pressure of filling in for Virgil van Dijk.
The Brazilian midfielder put in a standout display in defence as Liverpool got their Champions League campaign off to a flying start against Ajax last night.
Fabinho made a crucial clearance off the line from Dusan Tadic after an own goal from Nicolas Tagliafico gave the Reds all three points in Amsterdam.
Kop boss Klopp said: “The clearance gave him confidence for sure.
“That was a massive one, not only because of this he had a big hand in this victory.
“It was good but even Fabinho can play better.
“It was a good performance but there is a lot to improve, that is good.
“Was there pressure in the situation? Yes it's clear for the two in the back (Fabinho and Joe Gomez) there as it was their first game together.

But they had to overcome some scares with former Toffees midfielder Davy Klaassen hitting the post in the second period as well as Fabinho's goal-line clearance in the first half.
Klopp said: “It is huge but we are not dumb enough to think we didn't need a bit of luck as Fabinho needed to make a proper stretch to get that ball from the line and they hit the post.
“Clean sheet is one information but we could have done better.”
