Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes’ Instagram comments show how the Arsenal star sees midfielder Granit Xhaka at the club.
The Brazilian has impressed since his arrival from Lille this summer, forming part of a defence that has conceded just four goals in his four games.
And he started almost all of those games with the Gunners’ Swiss midfielder sitting in front of him.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a sparkling return to form under under Mikel Arteta, having suffered under predecessor Unai Emery so much it cost him the captaincy after swearing at fans last year.
It saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who signed a new contract worth £250,000-a-week last month, take the captain’s armband.
But Gabriel’s latest social media activity suggests he believe the armband should be returned to its original owner.
Xhaka shared a post on Instagram from Switzerland’s 2-1 friendly loss to Croatia on Wednesday.
Accompanying the snap, the 28-year-old wrote: “Always an honour to represent my country, even if it’s a disappointment not to win.
“Next stop, Spain… we’ll do our all to return with three points!”
As the Arsenal star received comments of support from fans, Gabriel was among them as he wrote “My captain” with the flame emoji.
Xhaka did wear the armband for the international friendly and is expected to wear it for Switzerland’s Nations League game against Spain on Saturday.
The Gunners midfielder will be joined in the squad after the break by Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey, who was signed from the La Liga side on deadline day.
And the Ghanaian also used Instagram to send a message to fans of his former side after his £45m release clause was activated.
