Harry Maguire has been included in England's squad by Gareth Southgate – despite the Manchester United captain's ongoing court case in Greece.

The defender will be part of the Three Lions' 23-man team for the Nations League games against Iceland (September 5) and Denmark (September 8).

But it comes as the 27-year-old is awaiting the result of a court case in Greece, following an alleged brawl on the island of Mykonos that saw him arrested.

The trail started on the neighbouring island of Syros this morning, with Maguire's representatives having an appeal to postpone the case rejected.

United's captain is facing charges of assaulting a police officer and attempted bribery.

There are also surprise call-ups for uncapped Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips, Manchester City starlet Phil Foden and young United forward Mason Greenwood.

Explaining the decision to include Foden and Greenwood, Southgate insisted that now was the right time for the Manchester-based pair to make the step up to senior international football.

He said: "They have been involved with England with the junior teams. It's a step up for them but they are both more than capable.

"They have shown playing in big matches, for big clubs, that they are talented boys.

"They are both hugely exciting players who can be part of England's future. It is up to them to take it forward.

"It is now the right time a year away from the European Championships. Let's see if they can start to break into that team and that squad."
