Henderson sends message to De Bruyne after he wins Player of the Year award

Jordan Henderson labelled Kevin de Bruyne a "class act" as he congratulated him on winning the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

Liverpool captain Henderson and Manchester City star De Bruyne were both in the mix to win the coveted award this season, after sensational campaigns for their respective teams.

But it was De Bruyne who walked away with the top prize, becoming the first Manchester City player in history to do so.

Reacting to the Belgian's achievement, Henderson tweeted: "Congratulations to Kevin de Bruyne on winning the PFA Players' Player of the Year award. Class act on and off the pitch. Well deserved."

De Bruyne was delighted to win the award on Tuesday night, particularly in becoming the very first Citizen to do so.

"This is a big honour," he said. "To be voted by your colleagues, competitors from other teams who you always play against on the field. That they vote for you for best player; it's amazing.

"It's maybe strange that I'm the first one at City, seeing all the good players who played there before and who are still playing. But it's nice to represent the club."

On his boss Pep Guardiola, he added: "He gives me a lot of freedom; I don't know why, that's just the way it goes between us.

"He knows in one way I will always put the team first and then obviously if I can help myself I'm going to do that. He trusts me completely."
