Houssem Aouar ‘agrees to join Arsenal’ with Edu in talks to finalise Lyon transfer fee

Houssem Aouar has reportedly agreed to join Arsenal, permitting they can strike a deal with Lyon. The Gunners have made Aouar one of their top transfer targets this summer alongside Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

Mikel Arteta has been well aware of the Frenchman since his time working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

In November 2018 he congratulated the player on his performance after starring in Lyon’s 2-2 draw with City in the Champions League group stages.

Now Aouar is on the club’s shortlist after showing his quality once again for Lyon in upsets against Juventus and Manchester City.

Arsenal have already had a player-plus-cash offer including Matteo Guendouzi rejected for the 22-year-old.

Now the club are expected to up their offer following the £20million sale of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa.

Lucas Torreira also looks set to join Atletico Madrid in a deal which could raise further funds.

According to Telefoot, Aouar has agreed to join Arsenal amid interest from Juventus and Barcelona, although he would reportedly prefer to join them.

Arsenal are now set to reopen talks with Lyon over a fee with the Ligue 1 club demanding £54million.

Arsenal are now set to reopen talks with Lyon over a fee with the Ligue 1 club demanding £54million.

Lyon chief Juninho has already told compatriot and Arsenal sporting director Edu that they will not consider a swap deal for Aouar.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Arteta is ready to launch another bid if he can clear the decks and offload some fringe players.

“Obviously the club that is working to sign Aouar is Arsenal,” Romano said on the Here We Go podcast.

“We have to say that Arsenal are convinced that if they could sell some players, and they have many in [Sead] Kolasinac, Sokratis [Papastathopoulos] and [Lucas] Torreira, many players to sell or loan out in the last two weeks, they can try again for Aouar.

“Lyon are asking for €60million, so it’s complicated but the player would be ready to join the Premier League, would be ready to join Arsenal.

“The player would like to come to the Premier League and to join Arsenal but for now there are no negotiations.

“In July they offered Guendouzi as part of the deal and they didn’t find an agreement.

“Now it’s up to Arsenal if they sell players, I am convinced [they will bid again].”
