How Man Utd can structure £108m deal with Dortmund in Jadon Sancho breakthrough

Manchester United are starting to get somewhere with Jadon Sancho talks – but now face the challenge of putting together a deal with Borussia Dortmund.

The Red Devils have managed to agree agent fees and personal terms with the 20-year-old ahead of a potential transfer this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been battling to sign the Englishman throughout the summer – despite being told last month by Dortmund director Michael Zorc he would be playing at the Westfalenstadion this season.

One sticking point during talks has been Sancho’s price, with the German side valuing him at £108m.

But one pundit has revealed how United could pay less for Sancho in the short term while keeping Dortmund happy.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth said: “There are two things we’ve learned about Manchester United in this saga.

“They didn’t want to be held to a deadline – the August 10 deadline Borussia Dortmund set, and they do not want to pay £108m, which Dortmund value Sancho at, in the current climate.

“You get these deals where both clubs will claim success if this deal comes to fruition because if Dortmund sell Sancho and United put together a deal that is structured to reach £108m – these deals are never initially £108m – there you go, there’s all your money. It will never be that.

“Manchester United might structure a deal whereby they pay an initial £50m, £60m or £70m and then there are what we call achievable add-ons that will get the price to £108m.

“So, Manchester United will brief that they are paying an initial fee of £80m.

“They won’t talk about what the add-ons are, whereas Dortmund will say they didn’t want to sell him, we wanted £108m, but he wanted to go, and we are going to get the full amount of money because this deal is worth £108m.”

Sheth did go on to warn that United cannot rush into negotiations due to Dortmund’s other business.

He added: “But there is plenty of work to do before we get to that stage, and Manchester United need to be careful as well because they cannot leave this too late.

“The one thing Dortmund will want to do is to bring in a replacement. They will either want Sancho in their squad for next season or a replacement. One of those things must happen after the transfer window has closed.”

United fans were left in meltdown yesterday as coach Mike Phelan followed Sancho on Instagram, sparking a transfer theory.
