How Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract talks changed after Raul Sanllehi exit

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still yet to sign a new contract at Arsenal, which could be a result of Raul Sanllehi’s recent departure.

Sanllehi suddenly departed his role as the Gunners’ Head of Football last week after spending two-and-a-half years in the role.

His exit comes as a major surprise given the importance of this summer’s transfer window for Arsenal, having recorded their lowest league finish in 25 years last season.

And according to The Athletic , Sanllehi was the club’s sole negotiator in contract renewal discussions with Aubameyang – who recently entered the final year of his current Gunners deal.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to tie the Gabon international down to an extension after watching him inspire Arsenal to FA Cup glory in recent weeks.

He first scored two goals in last month’s 2-0 semi-final victory over Manchester City, before coming up with another match-winning double in their final triumph against Chelsea on August 1.

Sanllehi’s departure could explain why Aubameyang’s contract renewal is dragging on, and the striker himself is seemingly becoming impatient.

On Sunday night he sent Arsenal fans into meltdown by posting an egg-timer emoji on Twitter, indicating it is simply a matter of time before he commits his future to the club.

Fortunately for the Gunners faithful, The Athletic ’s report also states that technical director Edu and contract negotiator Huss Fahmy have picked up the negotiations.

Sanllehi is said to have structured Aubameyang’s bumper new contract, but Edu and Fahmy should be able to get it over the line in relatively smooth fashion.

It is also believed the recently-departed Head of Football was holding talks with Lille regarding a potential deal to sign Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, as well as working on a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

However, Edu’s extensive connections in Brazil should allow him to inherit discussions with Gabriel’s representatives, while he can also take over negotiations for Partey with the help of Fahmy.
