Jorginho’s reaction to being stripped of Chelsea penalty duties has been revealed by Frank Lampard.
The Italian had to make way for Timo Werner on the penalty spot during the Blues’ 3-0 win over Rennes in their third Champions League game of the season.
His first strike came after just 10 minutes, being tripped on the edge of the box by Dalbert before smashing into the bottom-left corner.
And he was called on again with four minutes of the first half remaining after handball by the Brazilian, going high to the left.
It means the German is on three penalties for the season, adding to a total of seven for the campaign.
While Chelsea fans have been delighted, one who has been left in the dark is Jorginho whose last spot-kick came at the start of October.
With 10 goals from the spot, his miss in the 4-0 win over Krasnodar was the latest attempt for the midfielder.
But the manager has explained that the Italian did not take it to heart when he was taken off spot-kick duties for the Rennes win.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Lampard said: “Not an easy decision because Jorginho has been pretty faultless for us. It’s hard from me.
“He’s missed two recently, Timo came in and scored one in our last game.
“I had a conversation with Jorginho and his answer was perfect from a professional, he doesn’t care who takes them he just wants to score, that’s how he approaches it.
“Timo takes them tonight, Timo is the taker at the moment and he took them very emphatically, so I’m happy.”
Werner also gave his take on Lampard’s decision to change penalty kick takers.
The forward said after the game: “It's a thing which keeps strikers the goals when you get to the high level. I'm happy about that and happy Jorginho is cool with that.
“I think it's another point that speaks for our team. We have no selfish players. We all want to go in the same direction."
Chelsea were missing £70m midfielder Kai Havertz due to a positive Covid-19 test – but the German has since given an update.
