‘Thank God we have two home games,’ he laughed with Sky Sports after the match. ‘Sorry, Mikel. You have to come to Liverpool twice, It’s not so bad.

‘It will be tough. I’m not sure which cup competition we played Arsenal last year but that was a real rollercoaster as well. 5-5, a penalty shootout.

On the win over Lincoln, Klopp added: ‘There was a lot of good football to be honest. We made changes and we made a mistake, that’s good for them.’

‘Everyone can take something from this game, Lincoln can take something from it as they stuck with the game.

‘I liked a lot of things I saw tonight, the goals were really night, the attitude was brilliant. All three centre-halves are still fit so that’s really cool.’

It was a good night for local lad Jones, and he was pleased to take his opportunity with both hands.

‘We started well,’ Jones, who was named man of the match, said. ‘Fair play to Lincoln, they turned up and gave us a good game. But we were the better team on the night.

‘I’m waiting for my turn and any time I’m called upon I’ll show up 100%.’
