Leeds hopes of landing James transfer ‘evaporate’ because of player’s stance

Manchester United winger Daniel James reportedly wants to remain at Old Trafford this summer, effectively ending Leeds United 's attempts to sign the Wales international on loan.

Daily Star Sport revealed earlier this month that Marcelo Bielsa's side were interested in bringing James to Elland Road on loan and Brighton and Hove Albion also emerged as contenders for the forward.

However, Football Insider are reporting that the player has told United he intends to fight for his place at the club and as a result a loan move now appears to be off the table.

Bielsa is looking to sign a winger and a creative player and a £15m deal for Norwich's Todd Cantwell is thought to be close, after Leeds made an official bid and the 22-year-old was left out of the squad for the Canaries' most recent game.

The potential addition of Cantwell will strengthen the squad and Bielsa has hinted that he is after more signings before the window slams shut on October 5.

He said: "There is likely to be a couple of incorporation into the team, but if they don’t come. We will adapt.

"In the case of Rodrigo Moreno, when I was at Lazio and maybe at other clubs where I have worked, we tried to sign him and he had better options than the one we were proposing.

"Logically, which I think is natural, he chose other clubs. So I think when a player comes to Leeds, he comes to Leeds for Leeds. I prefer to talk about signings if they are made."

Leeds are also on the cusp of signing Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich, with the Bundesliga side willing to let him leave.

The Whites are yet to agree a fee with Bayern but they are said to be wiling to pay around £18m to secure his signature.

So far this summer, Leeds have completed a club record move for Rodrigo, made Helder Costa and Illan Meslier's loan moves permanent and added defenders Robin Koch and Diego Llorente.

They have also re-signed Manchester City's Jack Harrison for his third consecutive loan spell at the club and brought in young prospects like Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and Crysencio Summerville.
