Lille president Gerard Lopez has revealed the club have made a recommendation to Gabriel over which team the defender should join this summer.
The Ligue 1 club have accepted bids from Napoli and Arsenal in the last 48 hours and Gabriel is set to decide which club to join before the end of the week.
Having agreed deals with both clubs, Lille are clearly willing to sell to either team but the French club have already dealt with Napoli this summer after selling Victor Osimhen to the Serie A club for £71m.
The two clubs therefore already have a working relationship and there’s a suspicion that a deal for Gabriel had already been agreed during negotiations for Osimhen.
Arsenal are still leading the race for Gabriel but Lopez has revealed that the club have made a ‘recommendation’ to the defender over which team he should join.
‘I think it’s fair to say that Arsenal is of high interest to him, Napoli is of high interest to him,’ Lopez told talkSPORT.
‘We’ve given him plenty of time to make up his mind…whenever we have the number that we want (in terms of fee), feel free to choose.
‘I don’t think I’m giving up too much if I tell you that choice is going to be made probably between today and tomorrow.
‘We’ve given him some recommendations, but we don’t like to talk [about] it in public because we don’t want people to feel bad or whatever. But yes, we’ve told him where we think he could and should go.
‘But at the end of the day, he and his environment make their choice and we support that.’
