Liverpool make surprise Leicester transfer call as £80m Adama Traore interest rebuffed

Liverpool have reportedly turned attention towards Leicester star Harvey Barnes after losing faith in the race to sign Adama Traore. The 22-year-old has become a regular under Brendan Rodgers after an impressive loan spell with West Brom in the Championship.

Claude Puel made the decision to recall Barnes from The Hawthorns in January 2019 just a month before Rodgers took charge at the King Power Stadium.

The attacking midfielder has impressed for the Foxes and has shown his sky-high potential in spells despite his lack of consistency.

Now, according to The Mirror the Reds are interested in signing Barnes this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be impressed by his energy and powerful running when in possession.

The German thinks there is more to come from Barnes and believes he could be the man to get the best from him.

Liverpool are on the lookout for another forward as back up for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Xherdan Shaqiri is also facing an uncertain future at Anfield and could leave this summer.

That will leave the Reds short of options going forward besides their current starting contingent.

Barnes could be the perfect player to ease into the current squad which is hopeful of dominating English football.

Liverpool have only recently taken a fancy to Barnes after losing hope in the race to sign Adama Traore.

The Wolves star has been one of the standout players in the division this season and has attracted the Reds.

Traore is well respected in the Liverpool dressing room after giving them a difficult night at Molineux in January.

Andy Robertson admitted during lockdown that he struggled up against the jet-heeled winger.

When asked on That Peter Crouch Podcast who the toughest opponent he has faced is, Robertson named Traore.

“Traore this season ripped me apart, to be fair,” the left-back said.

“I think he could give most Premier League defenders a 15-yard start and he would win the race.”

Wolves would be willing to sell Traore but only if they receive an offer in the region of £80million.
