Liverpool stars have chance to prove themselves to Jurgen Klopp vs Midtjylland

Four Liverpool players could be seeing tonight’s Champions League clash with Midtjylland as a chance to prove themselves to Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds boss has made four changes from the side that beat Sheffield United in the Premier League at the weekend.

Xherdan Shaqiri makes his first start for Liverpool since last month's Carabao Cup win at Lincoln City as does Divock Origi.

Takumi Minamino also starts with Georginio Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all on the bench.

That front three of Mane, Firmino and Salah are regulars in the Premier League but Klopp is set to rotate more often this season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Shaqiri could see tonight’s clash as the perfect chance to show why he should be involved more having stayed with the club through the summer.

It’s a similar story for Origi and Minamino with the duo both back-up choices to Klopp’s preferred trio.

Diogo Jota also gets another chance to impress having scored the winner against the Blades following his summer transfer from Wolves.

On the clash with Danish outfit Midtjylland, Klopp had said: “Look, you know what Midtjylland is doing. Midtjylland have different styles.

“They have playing build-up or they are a bit more direct in their build-up and stuff like this. If you press them high, then they play more long – all these kind of things.

“They have really experienced defenders, good footballing midfielders, speed on the wings, physicality in the centre upfront.

“They have a clear plan, so we have to see. We have a clear plan as well, which is adaptable, I would say, and we will try that.

“We have to make decisions before the game and then we have to make a lot of good decisions in the game. Then we have to show that we are ready for a proper fight because that's what I actually expect.”
