Man Utd aware that Man City also want Pochettino amid Guardiola uncertainty

Manchester United are aware of Manchester City's plan to land Mauricio Pochettino.

The Red Devils have made the ex- Tottenham manager their main target should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be sacked.

But City are also eyeing the Argentine as they prepare for life after Pep Guardiola.

It comes amid a shoddy start to the season with Solskjaer at the helm at Old Trafford.

A shock defeat to Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season was compounded by a 6-1 thrashing by Spurs last Sunday.

It has seen the Red Devils boss come under mounting pressure while Pochettino has long been linked with the United job.

Club chief Ed Woodward is a huge fan of the 48-year-old and wanted him to replace Sir Alex Ferguson all the way back in 2013.

And he tried to sign him up on numerous other occasions, including after Jose Mourinho's dismissal but his contract at Spurs prevented it from happening.

With Poch now a free agent, murmurs of him making an awaited move to United are once again in the pipeline.

But they are not the only ones taking a close look at the former Southampton coach.

City are also keen on landing Pochettino as a replacement for Guardiola, according to the Mirror.

The Catalan coach has always insisted he will stay beyond his fifth year at the club but the Etihad outfit have also struggled to come out of the blocks.

Leicester tore them apart 5-2 at the Etihad before a 1-1 draw with Leeds United saw them further drop points.

The Mirror go on to report that Guardiola's future is a 'constant' topic of conversation among players at the club.

Pochettino has had a year out of football after being sacked at White Hart Lane and he has always maintained he would like a year out before jumping into a new project.

But both Manchester clubs are not the only ones linked with the Murphy-born manager.

Some heavyweight teams on the continent are among his admirers, including Real Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan.

But with Zinedine Zidane and Andrea Pirlo firmly locked in their roles as manager, finding the right club could alter his career vividly.
