Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign an upgrade on Daniel James when the transfer window reopens. Ideally that would be Jadon Sancho but, with Borussia Dortmund only willing to part with their star asset for a premium rate, landing the England international won’t be easy. But Kingsley Coman would also be an upgrade on James should the Red Devils sign the Bayern Munich star at the end of the campaign.
Everybody knows Manchester United want to sign Sancho – and they hope it’ll be third time lucky when it comes to landing the 20-year-old.
The Red Devils pressed to sign the winger from Manchester City in 2017, back when Jose Mourinho was manager and shortly after winning the Europa League.
United ultimately missed out, with Sancho choosing to move to Germany instead having been swayed by Borussia Dortmund’s plans for him.
A year ago, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward came calling.
However, having failed to qualify for the Champions League, United had no choice but to abandon their pursuit and sign James from Swansea instead.
Initially, the Wales international took the Premier League by storm.

James found the net on his debut, scoring the fourth goal in United’s 4-0 hammering of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on the opening day of the campaign.
He then followed that up with another strike in a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Shortly afterwards, James scored a fine goal as United could only draw 1-1 with Southampton at St Mary’s on a difficult afternoon.
However, since then, the 22-year-old has struggled for consistency. He’s fallen behind Mason Greenwood as a result and United know strengthening on the right wing is of paramount importance.
Obviously, Sancho is the dream target. Having scored 17 league goals, and registered 17 assists, his numbers dwarf what James has achieved this season.

But Dortmund are firm negotiators and insist it will take a bid of over £100million in order for them to part with the 20-year-old, despite the player’s determination to move on.
United, as a result, are hunting alternatives.
And, should they succeed in bringing Bayern Munich forward Coman to Old Trafford, they’d be landing an upgrade on James.
The France international has been earmarked as a target by Solskjaer and Woodward ahead of the summer transfer window. And Bayern Munich may let him go, having boosted their squad with the arrival of Leroy Sane from Manchester City.
Coman has scored seven league goals in the season and also registered seven assists, despite not always being first-choice.

That’s considerably better than James, who has only found the net three times. Coman also has one more assist than the United star.
Furthermore, he’s a player who has operated at a high level for a number of years.
Bayern took a punt on the 24-year-old when they landed him from Juventus in 2017 after he’d spent two successful years on loan at the Allianz Arena.
And he’s been a key player for the club in the time since, helping them keep Borussia Dortmund at bay to dominate the Bundesliga.
Coman is keen to move to United when the transfer window reopens.
And, should that happen, Solskjaer would be making an exciting addition to his squad as he looks to win the Premier League title next term.
