Manchester United appear to be switching their focus from signing Jadon Sancho to Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr, but could face competition from Chelsea and Arsenal.
Los Blancos paid Flamengo £42m for the Brazilian in the same summer they sold Cristiano Ronaldo, but have yet to see a real return on their outlay.
He has has produced eight goals in 69 appearances and has struggled to earn a regular spot in Zinedine Zidane’s side.
“Others have played, but on these occasions, when a team loses, you can look for things,” Zidane said when asked why Vinicius was not used during his side's Champions League defeat to Manchester City.
“Vinicius could enter, other players too. I am the coach, and when I made the changes today, there were others. Nothing more."
And with negotiations over Sancho stalling, United are considering moving for Vinicius despite the huge £630m release clause in his Real contract.
The Red Devils have tentatively enquired about their chances of signing the hotshot, according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central.
Jadon Sancho 'bemused' by Man Utd transfer negotiations as Dortmund stand firm
It is believed they are willing to table “good money” to prise him away from the Bernabeu, where he has just under five years remaining on his current contract.
But it seems they will not have things their own way, with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal also keeping a close eye on the attacker's situation.
Real rejected the Blues last attempt to sign Vinicius back in November but Marina Granovskaia is plotting a fresh swoop, according to AS.
Arsenal and PSG were also in the hunt last year, it has emerged.
But it seems that Vinicius would rather fight for his place in Zidane’s team than quit, with the Defensa report adding that he has ‘completely refused’ Man Utd.
