Manchester United have earmarked Sevilla’s Lucas Ocampos as an alternative signing to Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele heading into the final days of the summer transfer window. Sancho has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target all summer but United have refused to pay Dortmund’s £108million valuation of the player.
Dortmund have flatly declared that the 20-year-old England international is going nowhere, with sporting director Michael Zorc shutting down any chance of Sancho returning to his home country before 11pm on Monday.
He said on Friday: “Everything there is to tell on this matter from our end has already been said and that won’t change over the next three days.”

And that has led United to look at alternative additions, with Barcelona’s Dembele among them.
ESPN claim talks are progressing well between the two clubs with the Frenchman having been convinced about a move to Old Trafford by international team-mate Paul Pogba.

But Barca want more than the £45m United would be willing to offer for the injury-prone 23-year-old, who cost the Catalans over £100m three years ago.
With United chief Ed Woodward also said to be preferring a loan deal, there is a possibility that a prospective move for the winger falls apart.
But ESPN say that Ocampos has been identified as another option should agreements fail to be reached for either Sancho or Dembele.
The 26-year-old already has one goal in three matches this season after netting against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup.
Last term, Ocampos scored 17 times and laid on five assists in 44 appearances across all competitions as Sevilla won the Europa League.
The Argentine can play either on the left flank or the right, though is predominantly deployed on the right-hand side, where United want more depth.
It is suggested that United have made repeated and extensive checks on Ocampos, both on the field and off of it.

The South American only signed for Sevilla a year ago after a four-year stint in France with Marseille.
And United can reportedly land Ocampos for around £36m – which would make him significantly cheaper than Sancho and also cheaper than Dembele.
His versatility and skillset appeals to the United hierarchy and having kept tabs on Reguilon, Solskjaer has also noted Ocampos’ abilities.
And discussing the possibility of further additions, Solskjaer told journalists on Friday: “Well, I’m not going to go into the transfer window now.

“Of course, all my focus is on Sunday’s game. The club is always working hard to strengthen the squad. If something happens – in or out – you’ll get to know.
“When we’re planning you’ve got players here that we believe in.
“Of course, the transfer window is still open for a while and the club has been working, and they know my view.
“We’re here to strengthen in the long term and I’m not going to say what is acceptable or not for other clubs or teams in this difficult period.
“We’ll tell you when, and if, something happens.”
United’s only signing so far this summer was the £40m acquisition of Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax.
