Willian snubbed Manchester United to join Arsenal from Chelsea this summer.
New reports in Brazil have claimed that the 32-year-old rejected the chance to move to Old Trafford as his contract at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end, before signing a three-year deal at the Emirates.
Frank Lampard insisted that he had no disappointment over the move having already brought in Hakim Ziyech, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have been left frustrated.
The Blues lost to the Gunners in the FA Cup final earlier this month with Willian watching from the stands in his last outing as a player for the club he joined back in 2013.
ESPN Brazil have now offered some more insight into the move, claiming that United were also interested, but that they would only offer a contract with a two-year duration rather than three.
The report adds that Willian was never approached by Chelsea chiefs over signing a new deal, but was in contact with Barcelona, United, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and of course Arsenal.
In his official presentation, the former Shakhtar Donetsk forward said: "I like the way they play, everything is sensational.
“I think with Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have a great opportunity to fight for titles in the Premier League and Europe again, so I am very happy about that.
“I am very excited to start. I can't wait to go to the field, play, help my teammates and help this club shine again.
“That's what I want. When I spoke to Mikel, the conversation was good, he gave me confidence to come to Arsenal.
“He told me a lot of good things and that’s why I came to Arsenal.”

Technical director Edu said: “I know him very well, since a long time ago because we've been working together for the Brazilian national team and of course I was following him because he played for another club.
“He has a lot of fantastic attributes as a person, as a football player of course, his character.
“I’m 100 per cent sure that everybody in the dressing room, the fans, myself and Mikel will enjoy having Willian in our side.“
Arsenal begin their 2020/21 campaign with a Community Shield clash against Liverpool on August 29.
