Man Utd set to miss out on Jadon Sancho transfer alternative to Premier League rivals

Manchester United could be set to miss out on Juventus winger Douglas Costa this summer, as reports in Italy claim his agent is working on a deal to take him to Wolves. Costa is no longer wanted by Juventus and has been eyed as an alternative to Jadon Sancho by United.

United are still searching for a new right winger with less than two weeks remaining of the transfer window.

The Red Devils are facing the prospect of missing out on their top target, Sancho, with Borussia Dortmund standing firm on their stance that he isn’t for sale.

Dortmund are still demanding £108million for the 20-year-old, while United aren’t willing to pay anywhere near that amount in one go.

Instead, with talks between the two clubs at an impasse, United have started looking for an alternative target.

Costa is one of the names on their shortlist, with Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo having told the winger he isn’t in his plans for next season.

The Brazilian ace still has two years to run on his current contract, but Pirlo took the decision to allow him to leave, with Wolves now interested.

Italian outlet TuttoSport reports Wolves are closing in on signing him thanks to the player’s agent.

Jorge Mendes, who represents Costa, is said to be working on a deal to take him to Molineux before the window closes.

Wolves are keen to bring in a new attacker this summer having seen Diogo Jota leave for Liverpool last week.

United are still prioritising Sancho over Costa, and are reportedly ready to make another move before October 5th.

Reports suggest they made a £27m bid for the Brazilian last month, but reportedly won’t make another bid.

Speaking to Sky Sports, transfer expert Dharmesh Sheth reported that United will try again with another bid to sign Sancho despite having their opening bids knocked back.

Sheth said: “United may yet go in for Sancho in the final 13 days of this transfer window, and then hope – as we’ve been reporting – that Sancho then agitates for a transfer.

“The issue associated with that is that Dortmund would need to bring in a replacement, and that takes time as they may have been planning the forthcoming season with Sancho.

“United have seen their rivals go out and do their business, and as a result, any player that they go in for now, the selling club will think ‘we can smell desperation… perhaps we can increase the price’.

“The ‘United Tax’ we’ve spoken about before when it comes to transfers will only be reinforced the later we go in this window.”
