Manchester United have got three alternatives to Jadon Sancho in mind as they start to admit a transfer for the Borussia Dortmund star might be a bridge too far.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made Sancho his top target this summer as he continues to revitalise the squad.
It comes off the back of a brilliant campaign from the 20-year-old.
The Borussia Dortmund ace has netted 17 times in the Bundesliga and got as many assists.
But the England international will not come cheap – and his club have slapped a huge £108m price tag on his head.
That is a sum of money that has been ruled outrageous by the United board, who are still reeling from the coronavirus pandemic.
It has led the Red Devils to eye a number of alternatives, with some targets already in mind.
According to the Telegraph, they have lined up Douglas Costa, Ivan Perisic and Gareth Bale has potential players to take a closer look at if Sancho is not signed.
The pursuit of the Englishman has been going on all summer and it has tested United's patience.
Dortmund have also been tricky negotiators, refusing to accept any form of contact directly.
Instead, they have forced the Red Devils to act through a number of intermediaries, thus further pushing up the costs.
With only a couple of weeks left in the transfer window, some form of action must take place soon.
That is why the club have taken a look at other targets to ensure they are not left empty-handed this season.
Solskjaer has made signing a winger a priority, with Daniel James only truly considered a squad player and Mason Greenwood still raw as an 18-year-old.
Sancho is the obvious priority but the alternatives have been on United's watch list for some time.
However, none may have the impact which the Dortmund youngster could provide.

Costa and Bale have both endured shoddy seasons, ruined by injuries and managers that did not trust them.
Perisic, on the other hand, is coming off one of the best seasons of his career after a loan spell at Bayern Munich.
At the German club, he won the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal Cup to land a treble.
