Man Utd take Ousmane Dembele ‘medical risk’ to rush through Barcelona transfer

Manchester United are reportedly negotiating the possibility of striking a deal to sign Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona without conducting a medical. Dembele has emerged as an alternative target to Jadon Sancho with United seemingly missing out on a deal with Borussia Dortmund.

Transfer deadline day LIVE

Sancho was United’s No 1 priority all summer long and they had a free run at signing the 20-year-old with no other clubs showing any real intent in talks with Dortmund.

Personal terms were said to be all agreed back in July but it was Dortmund’s asking price which proved too much for United.

They weren’t prepared to pay the £108m Dortmund were demanding as they felt it was too much in the current financial climate.

There was some hope on the red side of Manchester that over time those demands would drop, but Dortmund have stood firm at their valuation and have repeatedly stated that Sancho will not be sold in recent weeks.

That’s forced United into looking more intently at alternative targets.

Douglas Costa and Ivan Perisic had been touted as possible options with Ed Woodward seemingly going for experienced players.

However, talks are seemingly progressing in a deal to sign Dembele from Barcelona.

A loan deal looks more likely as United will likely hope to try again with Sancho next summer.

But the Red Devils are running out of time to get a deal for Dembele over the line

And Catalan newspaper Sport suggest that United could be taking a risk in order to speed up the chances of completing a loan move for the 23-year-old.

It is claimed that Barcelona are willing to let Dembele leave and United are now exploring the possibility of going ahead without a medical.

But Dembele’s lack of game-time this season is said to be a concern for United.

The Frenchman’s injury track record would also likely be a worry for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dembele played just five La Liga matches last season as he suffered a number of injury issues.

He has since returned to full fitness and played in Barcelona’s opening league game of the new season against Villareal.

But the France international hasn’t featured in either of the last two games with Ronald Koeman preferring the likes of Ansu Fati, Antoine Griezman, Philippe Coutinho, Trincao and Pedri.
