Manchester United have been backed to appoint former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United suffered a shocking 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday. It was the second defeat in three league matches for the Red Devils this season, leaving them 16th in the table.
The one game United did win – the 3-2 victory at Brighton last month – saw Solskjaer’s side be extremely fortunate to come away with the three points.
United ended last season on a high in the Premier League, with the January arrival of Bruno Fernandes helping the club qualify for the Champions League.
However, talkSPORT host and ex-United striker Alan Brazil claims his former club are now back to square one.
And he thinks former Tottenham manager Pochettino would be the ideal candidate to take on the job in place of Solskjaer.

Brazil said: “I thought it was maybe too big a job for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but then they went on a great run and then at the end of the season we all suddenly thought United were going to be back up there, it’s going to be a big year next season.
“And I thought fair enough, they’ve stuck with Ole and he’s producing.

“But here we go again… Pochettino is still there, and you just look at his CV, it’s fantastic.
“If they had to make an appointment and say ‘see ya later’ to Ole, he’d be perfect for Manchester United.

“I’d like to see [Solskjaer] do well, I really would, but the stats don’t lie and now he’s really up against it.
“Is he buying the players now? I’m not 100 per cent if he is. If he is, why is he not buying in defenders to stop that rot? You can’t keep giving goals away like that, it’s an absolute joke.
“So they’re back to square one as far as I’m concerned.”
United had a busy transfer deadline day on Monday, bringing in four new faces.
Left-back Alex Telles was first through the door, joining for around £15million from Porto.
Telles was followed by young winger Amad Diallo and experienced former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, who joined on a free transfer.
Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri was the final new signing United made before the summer window closed.
