Man Utd to offer AC Milan ace Calhanoglu five-year deal as Ole eyes free deal

Manchester United are reportedly willing to offer AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu a bumper contract at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are said to be big admirers of the Turkey international, who has been linked with a move to England on several occasions down the years.

And according to reports, the Premier League big boys are set to bite the bullet and offer the former Hamburg man a lucrative deal.

That's according to Gazetta dello Sport, who claim United are willing to hand the 26-year-old a five-year contract at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Old Trafford club's alleged plot to attempt to acquire Calhanoglu's services comes amid ongoing contract talks between the creative midfielder and Milan.

Calhanoglu is on course to become a free agent at the end of the season, although Milan are still hoping he'll pen a new deal at the San Siro.

The potential arrival of Calhanoglu at Old Trafford would lead to even sterner competition in the heart of United's midfield.

Competition for a starting birth in the centre of the pitch is already red hot following the summer arrival of Netherlands international Donny van de Beek – who has yet to start a league game for United.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aware of the questions surrounding of his decision to not fully blood the former Ajax man into the team but insists he'll soon be given an extended run of games.

"You don't have to start the first three games to know you're an important part of the squad," he said.

"I'd be disappointed if some of my team-mates said I wasn't important at Manchester United but I didn't start many games.

"Donny will be very, very important for us. Don't worry about that."

Manchester United will be back in action on Sunday evening, welcoming their top-four rivals Arsenal to Old Trafford.
