Manchester United are set to sign both Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani on transfer deadline day.

The Red Devils need to give their fans a boost following their 6-1 capitulation at home to Tottenham on Sunday, but key target Jadon Sancho looks certain to remain at Borussia Dortmund.

Left-back Telles is available on a cut-price fee with his contract due to expire at the end of the current season, and he could offer a new attacking dimension to the United defence.

Details of the 27-year-old’s agreement with his new club have now been revealed, with agent Pini Zahavi managing to grab a five-year deal for his client on lucrative terms.

Nicolo Schira has reported that Telles has signed for United in a deal worth around £15m during which he will receive £3.6m a season with add ons, as long as he passes his medical later on today.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an update on his transfer plans following their capitulation at Old Trafford, and he hinted that he expects deals to get over the line on the final day of the window.

He said: "Tonight is about addressing this and we know what we want to do and you'll probably know more tomorrow night when the window closes.

“”We need to look at what we've got here and make more of that.

"The world is a different world at the moment. Everyone wants to have the squad they want as early as possible, we are still in a position where we can add to this.

“I’ve got a squad that I need to get more out of but we can still maybe, by tomorrow night, have an addition."

Gary Neville has offered his thoughts on the lack of activity at United, and even described it as embarrassing.

He said: “I just don’t think they’re smart enough and wise enough and agile enough in the market,” Neville told Off The Ball.

Before adding: “They’re being outwitted in the market by the other clubs and if you lose recruitment you don’t win the league, it’s as simple as that.

“You can have a great coach but if you don’t get the right players you’re not going to win the league.”

Before stating: “The Sancho thing is embarrassing. It’s been going on now for four months.”
