Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has cheekily suggested Lionel Messi should join his former team-mate and close friend Luis Suarez at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Messi attempted to force a move away from Barcelona this summer but was unsuccessful and will remain at the Nou Camp this season.
However, Messi has been outspoken against the current regime and blasted their treatment of Suarez, who completed a move to Atletico earlier this month.
In a post on Instagram, Messi wrote: "It will be strange to see you with another shirt and much more to face you.
"You deserved to be fired for what you are: one of the most important players in the club's history, achieving important things both as a group and individually.
"And not to get kicked out like they did. But the truth is that at this point nothing surprises me. I wish you all the best in this new challenge.
"I love you very much, I love you very much. See you soon friend."
And Cerezo has cheekily suggested Messi should join Suarez at Atletico, bizarrely using the marketing slogan of Spanish nougat company El Almendro.
Lionel Messi's wife Antonella leaves Luis Suarez's partner in tears with goodbye message
Speaking to Cadena Cope, Cerezo said: "In life, if you want something… If Leo Messi wants to play with Luis Suarez, I tell him the same thing that is said with nougat: 'Let him come home for Christmas'. With desire, anything is possible."
Cerezo also offered support to Barcelona's president Josep Maria Bartomeu, who has been widely criticised for his time in charge at the Nou Camp.

"Everything [with the Suarez signing] went perfectly well," he added. "Bartomeu is a good friend and a great president.
"At the moment things are not going well at Barcelona, but he has acted as he had to act and nothing else has happened. The signing was not complicated, the player plays where he wanted to play."
