David Moyes believes the real West Ham are on show now after their early-season difficulties.

After an appalling opening-day defeat at home against Newcastle and unfortunate loss against Arsenal, West Ham have rebounded magnificently with eight points from games against Wolves, Leicester, Tottenham and Manchester City.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw with City on Saturday, in which West Ham led through Michail Antonio before Phil Foden’s equaliser, Moyes said: ‘I think we are improving as a team. The football is getting better and I am really pleased with way things are going.

‘Against Newcastle I was stunned. I hadn’t seen it in pre-season, in the games, in the players. I’d seen what I’m seeing now. I like to think it was a one-off and what you are seeing now is more like what we are.

‘I think the thing is we’ve got a group of fit players, got players in and competition is tough – if you want to stay in team you must keep performing and get results.’

The only concern after an impressive draw with City concerns the fitness of Antonio, who came off with a tight hamstring for the second time in a week.

Moyes said: ‘We’ll have him scanned. He came off against Spurs with something similar, but didn’t miss any training. I hope it’s not much but he’s so important we have to be careful.’
